José Gener y Batet came to Cuba from Spain in 1831 at the age of 13. He found his first job on his uncle's plantation, Vuelta Abajo. After two decades of working to acquire the necessary knowledge and the ability to carry out his own adventures, Gener opened his first cigar factory in Havana to produce his own line of cigars.
Taking advantage of the success of the La Excepción series, Hoyo de Monterrey has achieved great victories in the United States and Europe with Gener. Gener is a cigar maker with great wisdom, and perfectly controls the production, harvest and manufacture of cigars.
